Kansas State Head Coach Ron Prince Quotes

Opening Statement...

“I’m going to give them all the credit in the world. That is one of the top-10 rushing teams in the country, and I think it showed today. We obviously have some things that we have to improve on, but they put up those kinds of numbers for a reason, and consistently over several years. They are very good at what they do, but we are extremely happy to get the win.”

On Louisiana’s Offense...

“It’s an inside and outside scheme very similar to those who are a little bit older to the Houston veer that really revolutionized kind of the split-back, front-back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, and it’s tough to defend, especially when you have two really good runners who have been doing it for a long time in their system. We really wanted to try to get out there and play with a lead. We did that. You could see there at the end when they wanted to pass it, and we got a little pass rush, we had a little opportunity. But as long as the run was a factor in this game, it was challenging.”

On Kansas State’s Offense (and Lamark Brown)...

“Not bad for his first time out. It meant a lot to him; he wanted to do well. He was a good runner in high school. He and I spoke about this in the off season. It’s one of those deals where we are really proud of his efforts and I know he’ll want to do better and he mentioned that after the game in the locker room. He’s got a lot of heart, and he’s a winner. It means a lot to him, so we’re really happy that he was able to contribute the way he did. The running game really helped us to offset the time that would have occurred. I think that there was an opportunity for him and some of the underneath coverage to be able to get out and catch the ball. With his receiver background now, that’s one of the things that you feel pretty positively about. I know there were a couple plays we’d like to have back, but I thought he was terrific today, and I’ll give my hats off to him today; great effort.”

Final thought...

“We had an interesting off season trying to get into some of these (games); there are so many style conflicts in there. We have one of the very best passing attacks in the history of college football coming in here next week. We will obviously go back to the drawing board, and make sure we try to assess the things that are going to happen in that game. We have plenty of work to do; there is no question about that. We aren’t perfect by any stretch. We got the win today, and that’s what we wanted to do after the disappointing loss last week. There was a lot of stuff that went in (to the win), and I’m really happy that we got it.”
