Wildcats of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. Lamark Brown of the K-State football team and Lauren Mathewson of the volleyball team are this week’s Wildcats of the Week honorees, announced on Tuesday morning by the Kansas State Athletic Department.

Lamark Brown, RB, So., Hazelwood, Mo/Hazelwood West HS

Sophomore Lamark Brown, who switched from wide receiver to running back this past Wednesday, had an impressive debut at his new position as he ran for 137 yards and one touchdown in the Wildcats’ win over Louisiana. Brown, who became the Wildcats’ leading rusher this season after just one game, carried the ball 29 times on Saturday and also recorded a career-high five catches for 36 yards out of the backfield.

Lauren Mathewson, So., Libero, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South HS

Lauren Mathewson had one of her best weeks of the season in helping the Wildcats’ defense shut down Texas A&M on the road and beat Baylor at home. Mathewson averaged 5.00 digs per set on the week and started off with 15 at A&M and helped give the Aggies their first loss at home this season. The Wildcats swept the Aggies and held A&M to a team hitting percentage of .100 with Mathewson playing a big part in that. Against Baylor, Mathewson came up with a number of diving plays to keep points alive and was one dig short of her career-high with 20. She also added two service aces against Baylor. For the week, Mathewson was nearly perfect on serve receive with a percentage of .981 missing on just one of 54 chances.
