Longtime Staffer Norma Lawrence Passes Away

Oct. 1, 2013

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Norma Lawrence, who served K-State Athletics for 39 years in various capacities, passed away on Monday in Manhattan at the age of 86.

Lawrence began employment with K-State Athletics in 1967 as the secretary in the Sports Information Department for Dev Nelson and served in that role until 1996. During her time in Sports Information, Lawrence worked for six different sports information directors, including Nelson, Glen Stone, Mike Scott, Duane DaPron, Kenny Mossman and Ben Boyle.

She then shifted her duties to the communications and broadcasting office until 2005 where she worked with Boyle, who currently serves as general manager for K-State Sports Properties.

“It’s often said that people are what make K-State so special and Norma was one of those people,” Boyle said. “She truly had a positive impact on everyone she came into contact with on a daily basis and did so much to promote K-State Athletics and its student-athletes during her career.”

Following her employment with K-State in 2005, Lawrence remained an active supporter of Wildcat Athletics and could be seen at numerous events, which also included this season’s North Dakota State football game and West Stadium Center grand opening.

Visitation arrangements have been made for 7-8 p.m. Friday at Yorgenson-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan with funeral services set at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the same location.
