K-State Player Quotes

Senior Quarterback Grant Gregory

On difference between last week and this week ...
"It is all about matchups. We did not match up with Texas Tech very well but matched up well with A&M. They are going to win a lot of games this year, but that is football, you never know what is going to happen any day."

On the impressive first half...
"It went very well. We forced turnovers, which gave us the short field that allowed us to put the ball in the end zone.  When Daniel (Thomas) got his third touchdown we could see in their eyes that they were getting tired. At that point we knew we could really run the ball down the field every play."

On this past week's practices...
"The main thing we focused on was seeing how we would respond to last week's loss. We had to prove what kind of team we are, are we going to lay down or come back. I think we showed that we are a team with character; we have handled adversity well. Now we will see if we handle prosperity well. We have Colorado next week and they are coming off of a big win."

Senior Wide Receiver Brandon Banks

On 97-yard kickoff return for touchdown...
"I just read my blocks; the other 10 guys did a really good job blocking. It was not just me because I was able to run down the sideline untouched."

On quick summary on first half scoring...
"It was big to put points on the board right off the bat. Coach Snyder preached to us during halftime, it is important to come out and do big things in the second half, to put these guys away."

On performance of team...
"It was good, it's good to get 60 points on any Big 12 team. It is very exciting and hopefully it will carry on next week."

Senior Running Back Daniel Thomas

On how badly this win was needed ...
"Oh, we definitely needed this. I mean it was a big win for us. Especially playing at home."

On being in first place in the Big 12 North...
"It's early, but just like you said, just to be in first place in the Big 12 North, that's great for us."

On the importance of doing well early in the night...
"You know it was great getting early action and everything, but the most important thing is that we came home to win. So that's what I was most focused on, getting the win."

Freshman Wide Receiver/ Quarterback Colin Klein

On the importance of his touchdown catch...
"Well, obviously, that was the first of my career. You know I'm just very thankful and grateful to be a part of this team. Just the unity that Coach Snyder has brought to us all, it doesn't matter who's out there or what position they're in. But we're all together, we're all working for the same goal."

Senior Defensive End Jeffery Fitzgerald

On the six team sacks...
"We worked on it off-season. It's definitely all we can practice, just getting after the quarterback."

On the favorable match-ups to get the sacks...
"It's just kind of scheming off what they did and how their protection worked. They threw a few things at us but we just adjusted well and just seemed to capitalize off some things that we did to our advantage"

Senior Linebacker John Houlik
On tonight's defensive performance...
"It all started last Monday. We came in with a fast week trying to go 1-0 everyday and get back to the basics and fundamentals that we needed to do. Obviously, we did not play our best down at Texas Tech. We knew we had a lot more fight in us and we just had to come out and have a good week of practice and play hard and tonight went well."

On if he was surprised by tonight's defensive performance....
"I was not surprised. I know that we are a pretty capable team. Everything was rolling tonight. I was not as much surprised as much as I was excited and happy that we had the ball finally rolling our way and had some things going right for us. It was a good team win. Texas A&M is a good team and they did not show all they had tonight. We are lucky to come out with the win."

On the overall defensive effort...
"We had a good week of practice and the coaches game-planned well. Our schemes worked really well. We were blitzing and coming from all over the field and I do not think they were ready for the type of package that we brought to the game. It was a fun defensive night."

On tackling...
"We are always working on our fundamentals. Now that we are in Big 12 play, open-field tackling is such a big deal. We did a lot of open-field tackling this week and I think it really helped us out. It is something we have to continue to improve on and progress through the year."

Junior Defensive Back Joshua Moore
On coming out after last week's big loss at Texas Tech...
"I feel that after last week's game we had a lot to prove. Texas Tech put a lot of points up against us. This week we went out to practice and we showed up at the game with a chip on our shoulder ready to play."

On the pass rush...
"The defensive line got down and did their job. They were relentless tonight. If we can keep getting that out of them, I think we will be good on the back end."

On Jerrod Johnson throwing his first interception of the season tonight...
"I want to say it motivated us. We knew coming into the game that he had not thrown a pick yet. We just figured that if we did our assignment as we were supposed to, we had a chance of getting an interception and that is what happened."
