Heidrick Named to Development Staff

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcat women's basketball standout Missy Heidrick will return to her alma mater as Regional Director of Development for the K-State Athletics Department, Athletics Director John Currie announced today.

In her new role, Heidrick, who has served the past two and a half years as the Director of Development with KU Endowment for the University of Kansas Cancer Center, will be responsible for building relationships with K-State fans and providing personalized service to Ahearn Fund donors. She will be based full-time in the Kansas City area with her office located on K-State's Olathe Innovation Campus.

"We are committed to having a strong presence in the Kansas City area and in other K-State alumni centers such as Minneapolis and Chicago," Currie said. "We feel strongly about building personal donor relationships as we seek to enhance our 16 sports, and Missy's passion for K-State and professional experience made her the perfect fit for this position."

A 1998 K-State graduate, the former Missy Decker was a four-year letterwinner on the women's basketball team and earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 1996 and 1997. A native of Rochester, Minn., she also earned first-team academic all-conference honors three times while accumulating a 3.5 grade-point average in business administration/marketing.

"This is an exciting time for Kansas State University and for K-State Athletics, and I could not be happier to be rejoining the Wildcat family." Heidrick said.  "There is great opportunity for us to grow our base of supporters and advocates for K-State Athletics and the Ahearn Fund, both in Kansas City and beyond.  I look forward to that challenge and to making sure our coaches and student-athletes have every opportunity for optimal success as well as providing a first rate experience for our fans."

During her tenure at KU Endowment, Heidrick worked with leadership to coordinate the annual fundraising priorities, plans and activities for The University of Kansas Cancer Center, KU School of Medicine and the KU Medical Center.  She worked with her colleagues to execute a comprehensive fund-raising program for the cancer center focusing on the solicitation of major gifts, current and planned, from patients, corporations, foundations, service organizations, faculty and staff and other capable donors.

"We are excited to welcome Missy to the Ahearn Fund team and know that K-Staters everywhere will look forward to working with her," Associate Athletics Director Chad Weiberg said. "Although we had several truly outstanding candidates, the search committee felt that the combination of Missy's experience, both as a fundraiser in the Kansas City area and as a former K-State student-athlete, set her apart in the process."

Prior to her stint with KU Endowment, Heidrick served as the Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the KU Medical Center from 2004-2007. She also spent three years with the K-State Alumni Association (2001-2004) during which she served as the associate director of alumni programs. She administered all in-state and out-of-state alumni clubs, co-directed the Catbacker Clubs across the state with the athletics department, directed the K-State Alumni Association Scholarship Program and directed, planned and publicized all Homecoming activities.

Heidrick is no stranger to Wildcat fans, serving as the color analyst for women's basketball games on the K-State Sports Radio Network as well as on Fox Sports Net for the past seven seasons. She, her husband Jay, a 1999 K-State graduate, and their daughter Molly reside in Olathe.
