Media Day - Women's Basketball Player Quotes

Senior Guard Kimberly Dietz

On the increased presence in the post helping the guards...

“It takes a little bit of pressure off. Jackie (Stanley) is going to be a great asset to this team. She’s very strong, physical and with Marlies (Gipson) back we’re going to have a great post game in there. If we can get it into them and they can get it back out to us, we’re going to have even field there.”

Junior Forward Marlies Gipson

On what it was like to sit out at the end of last season...

“It was hard but with me being out, the team grew and I’m excited to be added back in there and to get going. (The toughest part was) being positive, knowing that it was going to take time, keep pushing and that it was going to heal.”

On a few of the newcomers...

“I’m really excited to play inside with Jackie (Stanley), she’s a great post. Shalin (Spani) and Kelsey (Nelson) are both great guards. They’re learning everyday and they come into the gym ready to go and its really exciting.”

Sophomore Guard Kari Kincaid

On the post players helping the guards...

“Anytime you add post players like Jackie Stanley and Marlies Gipson it helps the team out in every aspect. They’re such great players that it not only makes other players in the post better but it helps the perimeters too, getting those extra options or creating things outside for us as well.”

Senior Guard/Forward Carolyn McCullough

On the newcomers...

“We’re definitely excited about our new people we have in, our freshmen and Kelsey (Nelson), that totally add to the chemistry of the team. We’re excited about everyone that’s back and healthy this year. I think we’ll have some more depth that we didn’t have last year.”

On the depth of the team increasing...

“What’s great is that even if someone is having an off night, I think Coach (Patterson) is confident that she can put someone else in and we can really rally as a team. She can run people in and out and keep us fresh. We’re really excited about that depth and it will help, especially in the Big 12 when the season gets really long.

“On our drills, last year we had to have a lot of the practice guys in with us and now it can be us and we can come together as a team because it’s us going through everything together.”

On any players standing out in practice...

“Honestly, I can say something good about every person, especially the new ones. Each person brings a different dynamic to the team that we’re excited about.”

Senior Forward Shana Wheeler

On her thoughts on the team...

“I think this is a great team. We’re older and we also have some great new players coming in that are playing really well. I think we have a lot more players, a deeper bench, so it’s going to help the starters a lot. It’s going to help us a lot this season. This team is getting along so well and we’re playing really well together already. I think we have great chemistry and we’re really excited for this season.”

Junior Guard/Forward Danielle Zanotti

On the non-conference schedule...

“We have an incredible non-conference schedule coming up. The coaches emphasized that to us and I think it’s great because the Big 12 is so competitive and I think we need to play some really high caliber teams. I think it’s going to be a great indicator of where we’re at and what we need to work on before we head into our competitive Big 12 schedule.
