Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“Well it is always a priviledge for us to play such a quality opponent in our exhibition schedule. Washburn is obviously very talented and well coached. It is good for us to have to defend a good solid post game and players that are effective at shooting the three. I thought it was a game that brought a number of challenges to the floor for us to adjust to with the balance of their inside outside attack. I was pleased with the rebounding numbers that (Ashley) Sweat and (Marlies) Gibson gathered. That boats well for us to see Ashley (Sweat) get her rebounding numbers around five or six and as always Marlies (Gibson) was a warrior on the boards. Rebounding is obviously an area that I would like to see improvement in throughout the season.“

On three point shooting...

“I think the three is always going to be a big part of what  we do offensively. The encouraging thing to me is that we got those looks and being the first game that is really the bigger concern. You have to see if you are getting the shot that you want, that is really the issue. The makes will come with we get more comfortable with our offense.”

On establishing an inside game...

“Establishing an inside game was something that we had to accomplish before we left tonight and it took us a long time to get to that point but I think we finished the game well with a few post hits. That will be another deminsion in the game that we will have to elevate priority at the beginning of each game. We are versatile. There are a number of ways that we can play people but we have to put pressure on our opponent on the defensive end. I was pleased to see our post defense that came in the later part of the game.”

On what she thought was a real positive for K-State...

“I was happy with the way Jalana (Childs) and Branshea (Brown) came into the game with their back to the basket and be real assertive. The size and the physical nature of the opponent that they will play will continue to increase but I liked what they brought late in the game.”
