Washburn Head Coach Ron McHenry Quotes

Opening statement (What he learned about his team)...

“I told them before we started that if we’ll just compete and do some little things, I think we can eventually develop into a good basketball team.  For the most part, we competed most of the game.  There was a part in the second half where they made a run at us and we didn’t compete as hard as we should of.  We got a little tired and once in a while, you don’t compete as well as you need to when you’re tired.  I still think I saw enough today to say we have a chance to get better; we have a chance to be a pretty good basketball team.  We’re not there yet, but for three weeks we’ve had some new kids in some key positions and without our starting point guard who’s been with us for a while, it’s not a bad effort; we competed.  They missed some shots early but we did too.  I thought we got some good looks with the offensive sets we were trying. Stanecia (Graham) was down low there right where we wanted her at. She didn’t finish as good as we wanted her to, but that’s what we are trying to get out of the offense, so it’s good to see that we are at least getting it down in there.  We competed hard.  There were some defensive things I didn’t like at all, but for the first outing we’ll take it and we’ll try to get better from here.”
