Washburn Player Quotes

Stanecia Graham, Forward

On not finishing under the basket...

“I’m trying to get back to playing a little post.  Last year, I was more of a high post player so now I’m trying to get used to playing in the back court.  I think we played hard, but we should have fought a little harder in the second half.  We got comfortable with where we were in the first half.  K-State’s a good team and when I played for Texas Tech we lost by more than 19 when we came here, but we just have to work harder and play harder.

On being able to get the ball and get position...

“I can get the ball; I just have to finish.  I got a couple of free throws; that’s just how the game goes, you never know if the referees are going to be on your side, so we just have to play harder.  There’s no excuses; I didn’t finish my shots and that’s the bottom line.

On second half play...

“You know K-State can shoot three’s.  They were 0 and 13, so I know that was in our favor.  The second half they were going to come out and hit three’s, so we would have had to switch our game up and adjust into something different.  I think some people got a little timid when they started playing like a Big 12 team and you just have to go at them harder.  We will never play them again, but we play KU next week so we know the kind of competition we’ll have and we just have to play harder.”

On Hope Gregory...

“Hope can shoot.  She always looks to me first and then I try to kick back out to her.  I kicked it out for her and she hit them, so it doesn’t surprise me at all.  I know she can shoot three’s.  We’re more of a go to low post and kick it back out team.  If we wanted to be a three-point team, she would knock them down.”
