Former SID Glen Stone Passes Away

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Glen “Sonny” Stone, who served as K-State’s Sports Information Director from 1973-1982, passed away on Sunday at the age of 69.

Stone, a native of Erick, Oklahoma, led the Wildcats’ sports information department for a decade and also served many years in the same role at TCU and Southern Illinois before retiring in 2010.

The youngest of 10 children and the first of his family to attend college, Stone graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1968, with a degree in public relations. He worked in the OU Sports Information office from 1963 to 1971, immersing himself into sports journalism. He also wrote for the Tulsa World and Daily Oklahoman newspapers.
Memorial services will be held Monday, November 10, in Fort Worth, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Bethan Legate Stone of Fort Worth. Texas; children, Casey Stone and wife, Leigh Ann, of Keller, Texas, Jared Stone and wife, Alyson, of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Keylan and Ayana Stone of Keller, Texas; siblings, Frances "Jada" Stone Rickert of Harlingen, Texas, Pat Stone Tignor of Sayre, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
