Emporia State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Emporia State Head Coach Brandon Schneider

Opening Statement...

“Obviously, I’m very proud of our kids’ effort today. We set some mini-goals for today that we wanted to try to get accomplished and we were able to accomplish two out of the three of those. We don’t really talk about final score in any of the exhibition contests. We just talk about some little things that we want to try to get done throughout the game. I was happy to see that we did two of those three things. We wanted to have less than 16 turnovers and obviously we didn’t get that done.”

On the play of his team...

“Well, it’s nice to see how we responded. That’s the game of basketball. There’s going to be ebb and flow to it. We were really close to getting blown out there for a second, but I thought our kids really stayed together. We talked about those things and how we wanted to celebrate the good times and battle through the tough times. I was really proud of how we did that in the first half.”

On the impact of the game today...

“I’m happy for the girls because obviously, they’re really excited. It’s a big deal to them. But, K-State obviously didn’t have all of their players, they weren’t completely healthy today. But we played well and I was happy with how we played. I think our kids are mature enough to understand that this is nice and fun for today but we’re going to go back to work tomorrow, whether we won or lost.

Freshman Guard Cassondra Boston

On her expectations coming into the game...

“I just wanted to come in here and play some minutes. I didn’t think I’d be starting right off the bat. I know I wanted to work and I guess I earned the start.”

On her emotions during the game...

“At first I was pretty nervous. Then I got into the flow of things. I just started to play and do what I had to do to help our team to win.”

Junior Forward Michelle Stueve

On her mindset at the end of the first half...

“I thought we were in a good position. Obviously, we were close with them. You don’t like to sit there and watch, but obviously, I had two fouls so there wasn’t much I could do about it.”

On playing pre-season exhibition games...

“It’s different in a way. It’s not a real game. To us, we like to compete and we like to play people. It was really great just to get out and be able play somebody else that wasn’t us, rather than each other. We’ve been hitting around on each other for three months so it was nice to finally play someone else. It was really exciting to me. My freshman year we came here and got the game handed to us basically. Last year we were close but were just couldn’t quite get it. So to finally get it, we don’t feel like we’re failing here every year. It’s nice to get the win.“
