Emporia State Quotes

Head Coach Brandon Schneider

Opening statement...

“Their skill level and basketball IQ has always been strength of their program. If you make a defensive mistake, they capitalize and get an easy basket. We helped them a little bit unnecessarily and the score was much larger than we would have liked. Their complementary players, in their previous exhibition game, did not make shots and that game was a little more respectable. Shalee Lehning puts you in a bind because you have to decide what you are going to try to do with her. Obviously, a lot of the stuff they do is through her and you have to credit them for making some shots. Transition defense was less we desired, as we did not communicate on several instances and their basketball IQ and skill level made them capable of capitalizing on their mistakes.”

On Shalee Lehning...
“I am not a WNBA prognosticator or anything like that, but I have to think that she is a top 10 pick. She is very skilled, plays her guts out, and is someone that we obviously respect a lot.”

Forward Ida Edwards

On Kansas State’s 3-point shooting...

“As a team, we tried to come out aggressive, but they hit a couple of threes as we did not get matched up right and we tried to learn from that. Every time the ball went up, I was hoping that they would miss, but they just had a really good shooting night.”

On what to take away from the game...

“Nobody likes to lose, but we can learn a lot from this and we can go to practice and work on the things that we did not do right. And I hope we can get that corrected by Tuesday. I think we did pretty well on offense, but we have to be more aggressive from the start.”

Guard Sophia Lenard

On Kansas State’s offense...

“On their half court set plays I think we did pretty well, but it was just the transition defense that we had to get used to, as we have to match up quicker. After a while we started to get into the game, but it was a little too late. They were hitting a few shots, but we tried and we think that we played pretty well.”

On the halftime mentality...

“We were basically in the locker room trying to get each other pumped up about the game, as we wanted to get more aggressive because we were not in the first half. So that is basically what we focused on.”
