K-State Head Coach Bill Snyder Quotes

Opening Statement...
"I was happy for all of the people involved. I was really happy for our fans. You could hear it in their response, that it meant an awful lot to them. I have always appreciated, as you all know, when people come and enjoy this football program and do so much for it. This game means a lot to the fans, and I have always known that, so I am pleased for them. I am pleased for our players because this game is so important to them. They continued to make a little bit of improvement today. I was happy for our coaches because they have put in so much time and effort into all of the aspects that go into coaching."

On whether he was pleased for himself....
"It is about a lot more than that. It is about just trying to build whatever it is that you are trying to build. You just try to put one stone on top of another and hopefully over a period of time, you can get it to where people would like it to be. This is just another step, and I am pleased about it. I would much rather be here under these circumstances than the alternative. At the same time, I am still the same guy that I was 20 years ago and as I told our football team, I want them to enjoy it the right way, but all we have in mind is a week from now and a day from now. That is really what it is about. When it is all over with and then there is something to enjoy, then I can sit back and reflect on that."

On the play of Daniel Thomas....
"It was a good performance. What I really appreciated about Daniel were the second and third efforts. He carried a lot of tacklers today, not that he had not done that in the past. Here is a guy that did not know where Kansas was a few months ago and still does not know anything about Kansas, but he gives it everything he has got, and he played hard. Sometimes he plays like he is a linebacker, and I just appreciate his approach to the game. He is not an easy guy to get down, and that is for one reason and one reason alone. It does not have anything to do with speed or size or anything else, it is just tenacity and a desire to get that extra inch or foot."

On the overall play of his team....
"We got some critical first downs towards the end, and we were in some really bad situations considering what we had done up to that point in time. I think that the real tribute was the fact that we did run the clock out, and did what we had to do to maintain possession to end the ballgame. I was so proud of our defense. We forced three turnovers in the first half, and at least two out of the three in all likelihood prevented scores in one form or another. They were moving the ball and got some critical third downs as well, and that is a testament to their team. Todd (Reesing) probably did not have as good of a game as he would have liked, but when it was third down and whatever the yardage might have been, he and Kerry Meier were pretty good. For our defense to hang in there the way they did throughout the game, even though they gave up some yardage and field position, they eventually got the brakes put on Kansas. For the University of Kansas to only score 10 points, that means that somebody played pretty well on the other side of the ball.
