K-State Player Quotes

Junior Forward Curtis Kelly

On what he thinks the team did best today...
"Our defensive pressure was okay, but you can tell we have some work to do. If you look at the stat sheet everyone had a pretty equal amount of scoring so that is something to notice."

On how it felt to play again...
"It felt great. I was excited and just happy to be out on the floor. It is hard to enjoy the moment when you have coach Frank (Martin) yelling at you from the other side of the court so you have to make sure you snap back into reality and just keep playing hard. There was definitely some jitters but I just had to focus on the game."

Junior Guard Jacob Pullen

On the team's performance...
"I think as a team we saw some things that we need to work on just from watching our freshmen from the bench and watching Denis (Clemente) when I wasn't out on the floor.  I think our team this year is open to constructive criticism so if one of sees something that the other could do better we will tell each other. Overall it was our first experience of going out in front of a crowd together; we just needed to get some jitters out of our system. As a team I think we pressured the ball,  got the ball out and ran the floor well."

On what they wanted to get out of this exhibition game...
"We just wanted to feel each other out. I didn't see anyone being selfish out there today. Sometimes as a freshmen coming into your first game you have a tendency to make selfish plays but we didn't see that. Curtis (Kelly) sat out two years, he didn't come in here today and try to do everything himself he got everyone involved. Jamar (Samuels) played the three and four, I think everyone contributed to how this team is supposed to look and I think coach saw that too."

Sophomore Forward Jamar Samuels

On what the freshmen bring to the team...
"We are more athletic and we like to get out on the floor even more than last year. My biggest surprise today was Jordan Hendriquez. I think he played very well. He makes the game much easier by blocking shots and rebounding for us."

On playing the three position instead of the four or five...
"It is something new. In the post you can actually take a break but at the wing you have to ball handle, pass and cut the whole possession. I made sure I watched how Dominique (Sutton) was playing before I got in there and that help out a lot."
