Kansas State Head Coach Ron Prince Quotes

On his emotions after the win...

“It was a nice win for us. To be honest with you, we told our players all week don’t be surprised if you jump out early on these guys and beat them. You could say that but the kids believed it. We had a lot of fun with it. There were a lot of things we did in the game to really try to be aggressive and a lot of those things did not work perfect but it was a great team we faced. I just could not be more proud of our kids. They hung in there and the coaches did a terrific job of getting the kids to practice with purpose this week. I thought it carried us a long ways for everything we had to come up with. My hat is off to those kids and the coaches who are in that locker room. I am really excited and really happy for them right now.”

On the final change of momentum in K-State’s favor...

“I didn’t feel good about this one until the very end. We were coaching our brains out down there at the very end to make this thing go the way we wanted it to go. We had a sequence of plays there where we answered and that is one of the things I felt really positive about the Iowa State and Colorado games. There was some momentum switched there and our kids did a really good job with it. That was an unbelievable drive that they put together on us and they executed and made big plays. The kids never faltered and I was really proud of how they handled it. It was terrific and we’ll obviously enjoy this one.”

On the final pass play to Jordy Nelson...

“I learned something when coaching for (Virginia head coach) Al Groh and he told me something that I’ll never forget. He said, Think players first, then plays.’ That is something I have always tried to do as a coach. I try to get our players in the best position to make a play. There is nobody I trust more than Jordy Nelson and if there is ever a critical situation like that the game is going to hinge on. Those were my words before we went out there. I told Josh (Freeman) I trust you with the ball in your hands and I want to make sure that we get the ball to our best player Jordy Nelson.’ He has been clutch for us ever since he came back. It is just right and fitting that he makes that kind of spectacular play. It is really no different than what he did last weekend.”
