Kansas State Player Quotes

Freshman Center Jason Bennett

On his thoughts about the first game...

“I was pretty nervous while I was shooting my free throws. I haven’t really played in front of a crowd that big before.”

On the atmosphere...

“I liked it. All the fans the way they were acting around us when we scored, or when I blocked a shot or got a rebound it was so intense out there. I never played on a team that had a crowd of fans like that.”

On his individual play...

“I think I played fairly decent. I need to step up my game. The team we all need to step up. We have to come in tomorrow and work hard in practice. Then we leave Tuesday to go to Rutgers and just play hard.”

Senior Guard Lance Harris

On the team’s shot selection...

“We didn’t shoot the ball good as a team. We were playing a little timid when shooting the ball. We were missing a lot of lay-ups at the beginning of the game. We just didn’t shoot it with confidence. We’ve been shooting the heck out of the ball lately, but we just shot it bad today.”

On making a run after being down 11...

“We pressed them a little bit, and that was taking time off the shot clock. They had to get shots off late in the shot clock.”

On the expectations with Huggins here...

“They’re high expectations. We have to show what we’re capable of. We know exactly what he wants from us. He’s been here since April, and he’s been telling us what to expect and how he wants us to play.”

On his individual shooting...

“I shot the ball pretty good in the first half. In the second half, I didn’t think I shot the ball too well.”

Junior Forward David Hoskins

On finishing with the basketball...

“I can’t remember the last time I missed that many lay-ups in one basketball game, so that was pretty frustrating. I think guys got really excited. I was really excited and ready to go. We were just shooting it too hard.”

On the team’s shooting struggles...

“We’re going to get better at shooting the ball. That’s just work outside of practice, so that’s not a problem. We just have to step up our defense and make sure they don’t get easy baskets. Then we’ll get easy baskets and get in a rhythm better.”

On the team’s defense...

“Personally mine wasn’t as good as it was supposed to be. Anytime you get a team that can pass the ball around the perimeter with no problems, then the pressure wasn’t what we needed.”
