Kansas State Player Quotes

Senior guard Blake Young

On K-State’s performance...

“That’s what happens when you come out and don’t play in the first half. The positives (were) we came out and picked it up, and got the job done.”

On his halftime message...

“I told everyone we needed to pick up the defense. In the first half we were letting them get the ball wherever they wanted to. In the second half we came out and tried to mess that up a little bit, and get some easy buckets.”

On playing two games in three nights...

“Coach (Martin) told us they were a pretty good team; they were way better than (Sacramento State). I believe maybe we did underestimate them a little bit, but they came out and out-worked us in the first half. They wanted it worse than us in the first half. We fought enough in the first half to hang around, and luckily the lead wasn’t too big. In the second half we took them out of what they were running.

Senior guard Clent Stewart

On how they want to play...

“Our defense creates a lot of our offense. When we play good defense that gets us pumped. Defensively we got some stops, and that allowed us to run a little bit and get back to what we wanted to do offensively.”

On being back...

“I was ready to be back out there. This last week I got back into practice mode. It’s my last year, so we just want to go out on top.”

On being a leader...

“For me and Blake (Young), we need to be the leaders on the team. Things are going to get tough; Pittsburg State isn’t a bad team. We didn’t come out and play the way we were supposed to. There at the end Blake picked it up, and pressured to point guard, and I got out and made a stop, tried to get the crowd into it, and that got everybody else motivated.  Sometimes you just have to feed off the crowd, and try to get everybody else going, and that helped us win.”
