Southern Utah Quotes

Head Coach Steve Hodson

Opening statement...

Kansas State has a very good basketball team. They’re hard to defend. They have people that can make perimeter shots, and they have strong inside play. So that’s a great combination. So they’re going to have a good year this year. I think (K-State head coach) Deb (Patterson) does a great job in execution, and that’s an area we need to improve in. We’re a very young basketball team. We have five freshmen and only seven upperclassmen. It’s only the second year in our system, so we have a lot of growing up to do. Tonight was good for us because a very good basketball team like that provides you an education. That education is invaluable as you get prepared for ultimately what is important to us, as it is for Kansas State, and that’s conference.”

On the slow start...

“I thought we shot ourselves in the foot. They put some pressure on, and their halfcourt trap looked decent. They got a lot of tips and deflections, and they’re very active and long. But we also had two freshmen starters out there, and there are 5,000 people in the stands. It’s the first time in the big arena. I thought nerves played a part in that. Were we prepared for it? Yes. We knew what we wanted to run. It’s just how quickly they do it compared to how we can do it in practice. K-State is a fine basketball team and a class program.”
