Kansas State Player quotes

Senior Guard/Forward Claire Coggins
On fast break points...
“Well, in this type of game whenever we don’t really convert in the work phases of the game, they are very important for us. But we know that, especially going into these next couple of games and as we head back into the Big 12 that we are going to be out matched athletically for the most part. Those types of points really aren’t going to come to us as easily as they did tonight. We were very proud of how our team ran the floor tonight and I think that is something that we are very good at but it is also something that is like a dream thing for a game because it is not something that just happens every night. Right now we just have to get better at making sure we get all the work phases of the game covered.”

On the play of the bench...

“I think that our bench is going to be something that is going to help us game to game. I think Naytanda Smith and Shana Wheeler both are capable of bringing a very athletic presence to our post play. I think that both of them are capable of getting big time boards. Game in and game out everybody, not just our bench, but especially those two has to bring a mentality that when they come into the game they are going to get every board because they are capable of it. They can both jump higher than anybody on the court. That is something that is very good for our team and they are doing a good job so we need to make sure to work on that aspect.”

On her personal performance...

“Every game I pretty much come out the same. Tonight I got good looks and Coach Patterson told me to play the game and to just let it come to me, because it will come. It’s not an emphasis for me to come out and score right away, but it is always nice when you do. I know that the game will open up. Dietz scored a lot of points in the second half and that’s when the game came to her. The game came to me in the first half and I just took advantage of it.”

Sophomore Forward Marlies Gipson

On her improvement from last season...

“I think I have come into this season thinking more aggressively and doing whatever the coaches tell me to do to help out the team. Just being patient and looking for the open person or if I have my shot taking it. I think that has helped a lot.”

Junior Guard Kimberly Dietz

On her three-point percentage tonight...

“I just have to credit my teammates for finding me on the open perimeter. When I see a hole I tend to shoot it and having a better mentality of when to shoot and taking good shots is what I am working on right now and I think that happened tonight.”
