Loyola Head Coach & Player Quotes

Head Coach Jim Whitesell

On K-State's athleticism...
"They were incredibly athletic. Their pressure defense certainly took us out of everything that we wanted to run. They are just a team that really gets a lot off of their defensive end. They just took us out of what we were doing. A couple of our ball handlers got in foul trouble so we had to play some different line-ups out there."

On how K-State's defense ignited the K-State offense...
"Their defense and their rebounding were two things that we were concerned about. Clemente, Pullen; we know they are going to be really good players and individually awfully good. But the biggest thing for us is being able to run your own stuff, and we got taken out of what we wanted to do."

On Loyola's rebounding in the first half...
"During the first 10 minutes of the game, that really kept it interesting for awhile. But then you know obviously, No. 1 they did a better job of being more aggressive, and No. 2 we kind of got back on our heels and played a little less tentative. And then early in the second half when we tried to execute and get back in, they just wouldn't let us back in it."

Senior Guard Marcus Thomas

On what the biggest thing they needed to contain against K-State...
"We were just trying to limit our turnovers. We worked on it in practice, preparing for them, actually for the whole season. You know just taking care of the ball. We played really well the first half, and then the turnovers started picking up and I feel like that's how we lost the game."

On if the environment at K-State affected the team at all...
"I don't think the environment affected us at all. We've played in big places. We played at Butler last year with just as many people, and I mean we won that game. It all goes to turnovers, if we turn the ball over like that against a good team then we are going to lose."
