Opponent Coach Quotes

Head Coach Derek Thomas

Opening statement...

“We got our guards and ball handlers in foul trouble and that hurt us. Then Beasley started inflicting his will. I thought there were a couple of over-the-back calls that should have had him on the bench and that would have helped us. When a guy is giving that kind of effort and he is that good, he is going to get away with some things. He is just a talented player.”

On K-State’s athleticism...

“When we play Missouri next week we will see something like that; when we go to UCLA next month we will see it. In our league we won’t see the same type of pressure, so it is good for us to be able to run the offense the way that we did and be able to execute against that kind of pressure. They have a lot of great athletes out there; it was amazing to see some of the players they had out there.”

On being out-rebounded by K-State...

“I think it was the athleticism. Walker and a couple guys have a good craft of jumping in and throwing the ball up before you can get them blocked out. They jump so quick, (Walker) and Beasley get the ball back before you can block them out. We saw that on tape and our game plan was to try to stay in front of them when they shot it and tried to take charges to keep them out of there. We didn’t do it for 40 minutes, and the other thing is that we missed a lot of shots. So that can be a little misleading but give them credit, they are a great offensive rebounding team.”
