Arkansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Brian Boyer

On his team's performance...
"It was a very gutsy performance, I was so pleased, pleased but almost sick to my stomach. The first half I thought we were playing so hard and doing so many good things but we just missed easy shots. At one point we gave up eight straight points. We were battling but we found ourselves down by double figures. We came out with a lot of fight early in the second half, but there was a point in the second half where I thought we were in trouble. You saw Kansas State's momentum get going and you saw our heads drop and I am just really proud of them that it did not happen. We just keep chipping away and getting closer and closer."

On the win...
"I am very, very proud of this win. We are going to come back home Wednesday night and the thing we have to understand as a team is that it is just a win. As the season goes along we will find out how good of a win this was. Regardless of circumstances, I don't care where you go, to come on the road to a crowd of over 3000 people and you hang tough like that, you have accomplished something. I am just so proud of this team. We have to keep getting better. We have a quick turnaround this week. We have a lot of games in a short amount of time. "

Senior Guard Ebonie Jefferson

On the overtime...
"It took all of us coming together and fighting through to come out with a win. We came in here knowing that it was going to be a tough physical game. It is a road game; you have to expect the crowd to get into it, and everything in this environment. We just had to stay strong and stay together and work together. "

On playing a Big 12 team...
"We came in excited and we knew it could go either way because we both just lost games. We just came in and decided to give it our all and we knew that K-State would give it their all. We just left it all out on the court. We expected the post to be physical inside, so we knew that our inside game had to be strong. Rebounding was a key for our team coming into this game."

On playing overtime...
"Playing 40 plus minutes is always tiring but I knew that as captain and senior I had to step it up for my team and pull through. I said we are going into overtime, let's get focused, get it together and get a win. It was a great win, even though we made a lot of mistakes. We need to continue to work on our defense and keeping turnovers down of course and just continue to get better as the season goes along."
