Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

On the loss...
"I thought Arkansas State did a great job of playing very aggressive on the offensive end, especially on the boards. They did a tremendous job of maintaining poise and composure offensively. They did a good job of mixing up their defense looks. They really had variety and discipline on the floor tonight. They did a good job of making plays that are difficult to make on the road and those plays led to great success on their part. Obviously, the numbers indicate why they got the win. Statistically, they owned just about every phase of the game. So I give them credit for coming in here and getting a road win. I appreciate our fans being here and I thought they did their very best to try and provide us with energy and give us the emotion to get over the top. Again, I give Arkansas State credit for making the big plays and playing a great game on the offensive end."

On rebounding troubles...
"I think it is something that we are just going to have to continue with each and every day in practice to make a priority. It is something that we need to continue to talk about, to continue to put people in position, in terms of our competitive experiences. It is one thing to box out in a drill that is designed to put an emphasis on rebounding; it is another thing to get it done in a game scenario. Hopefully our team, after these last two games, will play with a sense of urgency. And to individually do a better job on the boards. The discrepancy and number of possessions each team has, the put-back opportunities and the points in the paint that we are giving our opponents, in many situations, are a reflection of us not being a good rebounding team."

On the team's intensity...
"With Arkansas State down 14 points, I think that is a bit of a personality of our team, in terms of not having a cutthroat mentality as we compete during each possession. As we build a lead refusing by virtue the little things that ultimately become big things, we don't necessarily have an identity at this stage, when we are ahead or when we are behind aside from the last two or three minutes of the last two games. That is really when I have seen some personality from our team, but in both scenarios not enough and too late. So we have got to understand that those last two or three minutes are really what the whole game needs to be about."
