Kansas State Player Quotes

Sophomore Forward Ron Anderson
On tonight’s game plan...
“Tonight’s main emphasis was defense. We prepared all week to get in line to not make the passes and reversing the ball easy. We didn’t go out and execute as well as we planned so coach told us to pick it up and I think in the second half we did so. At half, coach was not that upset. He said if we put ourselves into these types of positions when you play good teams, we will have to find a way to win and that is exactly what we did. We went and struggled a bit, but it is the beginning of the season and we are going to make some mistakes.”

On first half performance...
“I think we had a couple of mental lapses. We knew what we had to do. But a lot of times when you get into the heated moment with some new guys, with the excitement of the game, a lot of times people are overly excited. The thing about our team is we do not just have one or two players that can help us. We have everybody and I think seeing the past games, on any given night, someone can step up for us. That works for us as an advantage and I think as a team collectively, as we learn to how stop making the mental mistakes, we will be fine and able to make a run.”

On preparing for this weekend’s road game at Cleveland State...
“We are eager to get back into the environment where we do not have that sixth man to our advantage. A lot of us lost to Wisconsin in an environment where we had our fans and they had theirs, so we are eager to get on the road again. These are the times where you truly find out on how to work as a team and come together. We are going to need to know how to succeed playing in the Big XII as the road wins are going to be the most valuable ones.”

Sophomore Forward Dominique Sutton
On tonight’s defensive effort...
“It is important for us to get into the passing lanes. On the offensive end, we are struggling so we are trying press to get some steals to get us going. It is very important for us to have pressure, get some steals and get baskets off of those. I think we got more aggressive in the last 10 minutes of the game as we cranked it up a bit. We got some steals, got the crowd into the game and got the win. We have to work hard in practice and treat it like a game and do it for 40 minutes as we get some fresh legs out there. I think the bench did a good job and helped us out getting us on a run and some rest.

On the near future of the team...
I think day by day we need to take baby steps and go over on the things we should work on. We have 33 more games and a long season ahead of us. I think if we go out there and get better, we will be where we want to be in the end. I am looking forward to going on the road and playing in front of 12,000 to 13,000 of their fans. So I am looking forward to that challenge big time.”

Sophomore Guard Fred Brown
On his role of K-State’s offense...
“I just let the game come to me and shoot shots in the flow of the offense. Frank (Martin) does not get mad at you for shooting, so if I am open I will. I think we are ready to go on the road (Cleveland State on Saturday) because that is what we practice for. The ball goes in and I am happy for it. That is why I go to practice. Being on the gun in practice all day, I can get shots in. It so happens that it is my number and it goes in.”
