Head Coach Greg Kampe
On opening the season with their fifth straight road game...
“I learned to never do this again. It is a long, long path and it is too long. We still have over a week until we go home. Three weeks to begin on the road is too much. But circumstances are different as our league went to 18 teams and it caused some scheduling conflict. We got caught and just have to survive it. It is a killer. I knew it was not going to be easy.”
“I think we had tired legs tonight. They took advantage of that and went right after us and did a nice job on (Johnathon) Jones. We were not able to get the ball where we wanted to. A lot of it was their transition and forcing turnovers which was the story of the game. They were very good defensively. But, I think a lot of it was our legs as we traveled all the way across the country and now back across it. So, I think that has a lot to do with the outcome. Six of our nine guys that play are freshman or sophomores, so they are getting some experiences that are making us a better team.
Junior guard Johnathon Jones
“We had too many turnovers tonight as we did not come out and handle their pressure well. That was a major factor and led to other things.
On the remainder of the season...
“We are getting used to playing on the road even though it is tough. It is rough for the younger players, but I am used to it as I have been here three years. We just have to continue being mentally tough. We are a good team. This is why we play these types of games. It allows us to see where we are at. We will move forward with a good attitude and get some wins. We are going to go to the tournament at the end of the year and will see one of these teams that we have played earlier on in the season.”
