Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Frank Martin

On the team’s young mistakes...

“There’s a reason why IBM doesn’t go out and hire 18 year old high school graduates. They hire college graduates. There is a certain path that an athlete has to walk on.”

On the importance of free throws...

“We hadn’t shot a free throw since the 15 minute mark in the second half. We hadn’t shot a free throw in awhile. Then we had to step up to the free throw line and we just missed. We just made 24 of 31 in our last game. In the Ryder game we made 13 of our last 14. We let number 10 shoot three consecutive times and we couldn’t come up with the rebound. Then we put him on the line and that’s when he makes a free throw to tie the game. Then in overtime we were down two I believe and we forced them into a bad shot, but gave up the weak side offensive rebound to their point guard. Some go nuts over free throws and obviously to win these kinds of games you have to make free throws. It would have been nice to make our free throws and have a lead rather than have to play catch-up.”

On the last minute play-calling...

I had to call a timeout with about a minute to go in the game because with the set we wanted to run we had a couple of guys just not running it. We’ve spent so much time working on how we want to play that we have not had enough time to practice end of game situations. There is no way we don’t shoot a three there. We should have got a 3 point shot off, but that’s completely on my shoulders.”
