Oregon Quotes

Head Coach Ernie Kent

Opening statement...

“It was a tremendous effort because I don’t know if there is a tougher environment in terms of the students and the noise. They are right on top of you and this team did a great job of keeping its composure. The reality of it is the Saint Mary’s road trip set up this road trip, because that place was hostile, too. I thought that we were a lot more composed. We did a better job against (Kansas State) on subbing and resting guys. There were some tough missed free throws, but there were ten possessions down the stretch that we did all the right things. What a great job by this team and this coaching group just responding to big buckets and defensive stops.”

On recovering in the second half...

“I thought our rhythm got going a little better in the second half, and we talked about that at half time. Let’s get out and run. We are a team in transition. Even though we have those four starters back and three veteran players, we have to put Aaron Brooks behind us. At half time, we said this is where Aaron Brooks gave us confidence in these tough situations by making big plays and things like that. I thought there were several guys in the second half that stepped up and hit big shots, got big rebounds and got stops. The game, the atmosphere and the environment challenged us and allowed us to grow.”

On Sophomore Forward Joevan Catron...

“He was unbelievable for a guy that had hip surgery last year. He was three months behind and finally got going at the end of the season and had a tremendous summer. It really built his confidence a long way after going through what he did and how he played. What a phenomenal basketball player he is.”

Sophomore Guard Tajaun Porter

On winning on the road in this environment...

“The crowd doesn’t get louder than this. It is a great win on the road and we have to continue to get better.”

On the inaugural Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series...

“The Pac-10 and the Big 12 are two different types of conferences. It is a great win for our conference. It helps put the Pac-10 on the map and this helps us prepare for the Pac-10 play. Kansas State is a great team but we just pulled it out.”

Senior Guard Bryce Taylor

On missing late free throws...

“That is how it goes. We had some guys that hadn’t been in the situation before and they will learn from those misses. Sometimes I wish I would just hold the ball and put myself in that situation to shoot the free throws at the end. We just try to move the ball even if it is at the end of the game just to make it difficult for them to stop us. We will learn from it. It wasn’t a pretty win for us.”

On K-State’s team...

“They’re good. They have some good players. Beasley is a great player. They will pound you and they play physical. It was just good competition for us to get ready and continue to get better.”
