IUPUI Head Coach & Player Quotes

Head Coach Ron Hunter

On his team's performance tonight...
"We did not take care of the basketball and make free throws and those are two things that you have to do. We wanted to come in here and let K-State know that they should respect our program and I thought we did that and played hard. They are a good team and they forced us into turnovers that hurt us throughout the game. I liked the pace of the game and we were able to force them into some turnovers as well and I thought our zone kept them uncomfortable throughout the game."

On Alex Young and John Ashworth's play...
"Robert Glenn didn't show up to play and he is our leading scorer and when that happens then you some guys to step up especially against a Big 12 team. Ashworth played really well. He is our backup point guard but he is getting to play because our starter is injured right now. I was really impressed with the way he (Ashworth) kept pushing through the pressure and made some big shots. We don't see many teams like this in our conference so if we can continue to play like that I think we will be ok."

On returning home for conference play...
"We are looking forward to going home. We have played seven games and only one of those was at home. If you would have told me that at the beginning of the year we would be 5-2, I would have said no way. I am proud of our kids, now we need to go home and take care of business."

Junior Guard John Ashworth

On the K-State crowd and playing in the Sprint Center...
"They had a great crowd. It's a Big 12 school so we knew they were going to bring the crowd in it. They played tough. You know it's a good program. They were good with the basketball and they gave us a good effort tonight."

On K-State's defense...
"Their defense put a lot of pressure on us and they just forced a lot of turnovers. We didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball and we know that's partially because of us, but a lot of because of how hard they played on defense."

On returning home for conference play and what they are taking from this game...
"We're going to take that you've got to take care of the ball and make free throws to win games. We missed a lot of free throws and we turned the ball over too much. In order to win in conference play and on the road, you have to hit free throws and take care of the ball so that's what we're going to take from this game.
