Missouri State vs. Oregon Quotes

Missouri State vs. Oregon

Oregon Head Coach Jim Moore:

Opening statement:

We were very nervous to start the match but I was very pleased with how we responded in tight situations in games one and three and obviously pleased about playing tomorrow.

On reasons for starting nervous:

Our expectations are very high here and it was difficult to play against a team you don’t know very much about.

On the play of their two outside hitters:

This may have been one of Heather’s (Meyers) lowest hitting efficiency of the year. Someone else has to step up when someone has an off-night. Sonja (Newcombe) had a great start and Gorana (Maricic) had 10 kills to open the match and we need to have three hitters a night performing well for us. I was very pleased with Kristen Forristall stepping up and becoming that third person tonight.

Sonja Newcombe

On the team opening NCAA play:

We have a little more confidence heading into the tournament this year. We have a good young group this season. There are enough leaders on this team who have been here before to give us a good balance and makeup.

Missouri State Head Coach Melissa Stokes:

Opening statement:

I am proud of our team and I think we definitely showed that we belong in this tournament. I am just really proud of the way played tonight and I thought it was a great match. I liked the way we played in game one and I think we had nine blocks in the opening game. I thought the big difference for us was the fact that we had too many hitting errors in game two.

On Oregon’s 1-2 punch on the outside:

We have seen a 1-punch like that but not a 1-2 punch. We knew that those were their two go-to players, plus No. 10.

Jamie Adams:

On the play of Oregon’s Gorana Maricic:

She is a great hitter, especially on an off play. She is very talented and was able to see the block and put the ball wherever she wanted to with good velocity. I tried it a few times but it didn’t seem to work as well.
