Kansas State Quotes

Head Coach Suzie Fritz

Opening statement...

“I thought we settled in a little bit as the match progressed. We did a much better job of defending left side attacks in games two and three. Earlier, they were getting away from us on the left side particularly. I think Julia Silva is a really, really nice player. When they needed somebody to take over the match she became really active. We just didn’t do a very good job responding to her early.”

On preparing for the tournament...

“We’re going to work. It’s go time. That’s the way we see it. It’s NCAA Tournament time. It’s time to play our best volleyball. Our team has expectations to advance. To advance past the first round, to advance past the second round, to advance past the third round we’re going to play as long as we can play. We don’t mean that in the way that we are looking over anyone, but we have every intention to advance.”

On her team’s defensive play...

“They kept us off-balance a little bit defensively. I would say outside of Angie Lastra, I didn’t think we were making tremendously great effort in the back row. There were balls falling a step or two away from us. Those were balls we need to make better effort on. If you see what’s happening before it happens, it makes those plays a lot easier. I thought our focus got a little bit sharper and that was when we started turning those little plays making those little detail plays that we have to make.”

“They were one of the more aggressive serving teams we’ve seen in awhile. They were a very, very strong serving team. We were having a difficult time getting into a good offensive rhythm because of that.”

On the beginning of the match...

“I think we came out a little bit slow and a little bit tight once we got a little more comfortable we just rolled and played the way we know how to play.”

Angie Lastra

On playing Tulsa...

“We hadn’t seen them yet they were a little bit new for us. But I think as the game went on we were able to adapt and get going.”

On the team’s energy...

“Well I’m always ready to go from the beginning. I think we did a good job of staying together and fighting through all those early obstacles and we got the win.”
