Kansas State Player Quotes

Freshman Forward Ashley Sweat

On her offensive production...

“This whole week we’ve really been working on our inside and then back outside game. I think our guards did a really great job of getting the ball inside and then once we created that post presence, we had the opportunity to kick it back out to the guards. Our offense was flowing and our defense was a lot better, so that led into our offense.”

Senior Guard Claire Coggins

On the game ...

”Every team sees games like this, probably at least once in a lifetime. Credit them, they played hard the whole game and they never quit. I want to credit us too because we didn’t give up either. We worked hard through every possession. That’s something that’s really good for our team that we wanted to work on. We’re preparing for the Big 12. That’s a main focus of ours as we move through the preseason. We’re just trying to get better everyday, no matter what the score of the game is.”

On winning the tournament...

”We’re looking forward to it. It’s our host tournament and it’s something that we take a lot of pride in. Our Commerce Bank people have been really good to us over all these years that they’ve hosted this tournament. Our fans are great and we want to win it on our home court. It means a lot to us. Alcorn (State) is a really good team and they’re someone that we’re going to have to focus on and not take lightly at all.”

Sophomore Guard Shalee Lehning

On the game’s post play...

”That’s something that we’ve really been focusing on. We’ve got to give credit to our post players. This game, they obviously came out and they were ready to build a post presence and we fed off of it. So, the whole team came out with the mentality that we were going to establish a presence and it was going to be a physical one. We were just going to build each other up and go from there. We’re definitely going to use that to our advantage and we’re going to have to be able to do that and establish that because in a lot of Big 12 games we might be the undersized team.”

Junior Forward Shana Wheeler

On her defensive performance...

”Defense is obviously a big part of our game. We try to hold people to the fewest points we can. I take a lot of pride in defense. I love playing defense, more than offense probably. I just try to do my best, play hard and help my other teammates out if they need help.”
