Kansas State Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Her thoughts on the game...
"I just pleased with some individuals that stepped up their performance tonight. Obviously, Shalin (Spani), Kari (Kincaid), and Ashley (Sweat) did a great a great job out there. I thought Brittani Chambers had an outstanding game as well. It is not often that you see any perimeter player, in any matchup, finish the game with 11 assists. Kari (Kincaid) did a great job of distributing the ball tonight. The post-game from Ashley (Sweat) was very consistent. She was wanting the ball and being a great presence. I felt that as we competed that game she was constantly in position for the ball and impact every play. "

On winning with by a large margin...
"It was a great opportunity for us to continue to work on combinations and individual elements of the game that are going to be very important to us over time. All in all I think it was a good experience for us to be able to win without a great deal of stress on our shoulders every possession."

On the improvements made this game ...
"If you look at the second half numbers for us, we really outscored Grambling State by four in the second half. There were quality matchups each trip up the floor and for us being the kind of team that we are, going into this game at 2-4, the matchup was significant. For us, it is just about maintaining our emphasis on the areas of the game where we have to continue to improve."

Junior Guard Shalin Span
On her performance...
"I think that every game someone is going to step up. It does not matter to me what my role is, that is not on the front of my mind at all. It is going to be whatever the coaches need at that particular time and we are going to have different people step up and take different roles and do that collectively."

Senior Forward Ashley Sweat
On her consistency...
"I think that consistency is something that comes with experience and something that as a senior I need to bring day in and day out. We had 30 assists tonight, any post player that was getting the passes I was would be consistent. But the assists were huge for us. With our youth, we need people to stay consistent for us to be successful."

On the teams improvement...
"I think that is all about our chemistry and how we have been practicing. We have been running through our offense and learning to distribute the ball. That is something we are going to continue to improve on as the season goes on. We are learning to play together and that is something, despite our loss to Arkansas, we take huge strides in. Learning to play together on offense I think that we took steps towards that tonight and hopefully we continue that through the rest of the season."

Senior Guard Kari Kincaid
On her assists...
"A lot of my success tonight was spacing and making shots. It just worked out that my teammates were making lots of great shots and I was just the one passing to them. It was nice to be the distributor of the night. I just have great teammates who make great shots."
