Arkansas Coach Quotes

Head Coach Tom Collen

On today’s performance...

“You read the paper in Fayetville and it is about Texas and Oklahoma and I don’t think that our fans know that Kansas State was the Big 12 champions last year and they return the majority of their lineup. This is a tough place to play and we played against a good veteran team. We battled them tooth and nail down to the wire, and we came up short.”

On team poise...

“We talked coming into the game about the fact that we had absolutely nothing to lose. We weren’t the favorite in this game. It was the first time for the young ones to play in front of this type of crowd, it was  real hostile environment. We really tried to encourage them to grasp the moment and enjoy it, and rise to the occasion and as long as they gave good effort then we would be ok with that. We should have taken advantage of the fact that we had nothing to lose, we had no pressure on us. I really think that we grasped that but I think that we were stunned early. Kansas State came out and got an 8-0 lead on us in the beginning and we fired right back at them, showed a lot of poise especially from freshman Lyndsay Harris, who continues to amaze me.”

On the shooting performance today...

“It was one of our best shooting days, we didn’t overshoot the three ball, and even though we missed free throws, which is becoming frustrating to me. Ceira Ricketts was 0-2 and she is our best free throw shooter, Whitney Jones doesn’t have issues, and Ayana Brereton is a 70% free throw shooter. We will work on that when we get a chance to work on it, but all in all I think we turned the ball over a few too many times. But I was pretty happy with the effort of the offensive performance.”

On team’s busy schedule...

“We have played five games in eight days, everyone is a little tired and we’re getting ready to go into finals week. It’s really going to be hard to get the kids any rest between now and then because we really don’t have a day off and that will be another test for us. We just need to suck it up and go hard for two more days of practice, play the game at home and head into finals. I’m just really proud of the kids right now.”
