Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
On the game...
“This was a game in which I was very pleased with the accountability that our team brought to the floor. We’ve got a great deal of respect for Santa Clara and their ability to score the ball. I thought that we stayed true to our responsibilities both individually and collectively. I think that was a huge factor in this basketball game. Our players worked hard through this week, finals week, and showed a great deal of character day in and day out. We kept talking about how we were getting better. We did some little things that helped take steps in the direction that we need to go to be getting better. At this point, I think it is important for us to keep improving. We shared the ball well tonight. I just felt good about what our players brought to the floor tonight. I think it’s a great reflection of the great practices they had this week.”

On Danielle Zanotti’s game...

“I think Danielle was excellent across the board tonight. She was a great factor initially to help us establish that we were going to be aggressive. I think that her play, as much as anybody else out there, was huge in the first five minutes of the game. She was willing to take the first good look. She was aggressive on her shot, and I think that really ignited our basketball team. She was able to continue that consistency throughout the whole game. She was able to defend at a very high level. She’s almost always in a mismatch situation defensively. Against a team like Santa Clara, you can’t jump off and help much. (Santa Clara) went through a segment where they looked to exploit us a little in the paint. Three baskets in a row, like they had, can seem like the end of the world at the time. (Zanotti) kept her composure and continued to defend well to play a great basketball game.”

On the team’s play to open up Zanotti...

“I think we’re getting a little better as a group. Everyone is getting opportunities, including tonight, to play to their capabilities. I don’t think that Danielle’s game has changed that much since the beginning of the year, but they way we played tonight as a group allowed her to be a factor more on the offensive end. We put her in a different situation tonight and she responded to it. It’s not just about making shots it’s about taking the good looks when you get them.”
