Wildcats of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. Jacob Pullen of the Kansas State men’s basketball team and Marlies Gipson of the K-State women’s basketball team are this week’s Wildcats of the Week, announced on Tuesday morning by the Kansas State Athletic Department. It is the second honor for Pullen in the last three weeks, while it is the first of the year for Gipson.

Jacob Pullen, G, So., Maywood, Ill./Proviso East

Jacob Pullen had a great week, helping the Wildcats to a pair of victories over Southern Miss at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, and at home in a rout of Gardner-Webb. Pullen averaged 15.5 points on 52.4-percent shooting in the two games, while also averaging 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Furthermore, he recorded a 13-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio in the two games.

Against Southern Miss on Thursday, Pullen had 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while tallying six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Pullen turned it up a notch against Gardner-Webb on Sunday, as he collected 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while adding 11 assists for his first career double-double. His 11 assists were a career high and were the seventh most in school history in a single game.

Marlies Gipson, F, Sr., McPherson, Kan./McPherson
Marlies Gipson helped the Wildcats to the second-best start in school history at 9-0, as K-State went 2-0 last week and is one of just nine teams in the nation to remain unbeaten. Gipson recorded 13.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals and became the second player in school history to surpass 200 blocks for a career.
Gipson started her week with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, six rebounds, five blocks and two steals in K-State's 64-55 win over Creighton.
The senior forward from McPherson, Kan., notched her first double-double of the season with 12 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and three assists in K-State's 73-63 win over UT-Arlington. The double-double for Gipson was the 14th of her career and ranks her seventh in school history in the category.
With the five blocks in the two contests this week, Gipson has a school record nine career games with five or more blocks in a game including three this season. The Big 12 leader this season in blocks per game at 3.2, Gipson needs just four blocks to surpass Nicole Ohlde (2000-04; 204) for the school record and fourth in Big 12 history in the category.
