Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement...
“I’m really proud of our basketball team to walk off the floor here before break with a 10-1 record. We are a team that has a great deal of potential to continue to get better and I think we’ve seen flashes of good basketball in this non-conference slate with some things to build upon. We’ve seen areas in which we continue to be challenged. I thought in today’s game Weber State came out and was very aggressive. Their perimeters looked for quick shots early. I thought we were a little flat today, but again I want to give Weber State credit for the great basketball that they brought to the floor. It certainly wasn’t a pretty game from the offensive point of view, but some games are going to be that way. Down the stretch I thought some of our players stepped up and made some plays that you have to make in a game where you’re not necessarily feeling like you have a good rhythm out there. I’m not sure that we ever played like we had great rhythm, but we still battled through it and I was really pleased with our basketball team.”

On the overall defense of the game...

“There was a lot of screening action today. Considering the number and amount of screens that we saw, holding them to 54 points was pretty good on the defensive end. The game always feels a little bit different when you are not scoring on your possessions. We were not necessarily converting. It is not typical for us to shoot 33 percent from the floor. We did a very nice job taking away their 3-ball, which I think was big. Our post players never really let them get too dominate in the paint. I think our on-ball defense was adequate, it wasn’t necessarily picture perfect every possession relative to our intention, but we defended it fairly well.”

On her thoughts after the first half...

“I didn’t think we had played very well offensively. I felt we were slow and not necessarily moving the basketball at the level necessary. I was just trying to think of what we might do to answer it and I am not sure I came up with a great solution in the second half. There were some possessions where we got a little bit better. On the night, we just want to give great credit to Weber State for the defense that they brought to the floor and their aggressiveness. I am not sure that we matched the intensity on our offensive side of the floor that we are capable of. Tonight offense was a struggle for us, yet we still found a way to get the job done.”
