Kansas State Player Quotes

Junior Forward David Hoskins
On tonight’s game...
“We have a lot of work to do. We just need to play hard for 40 minutes. Once we get that together we’ll be fine. It is just disappointing. In the second half they beat us. The first half we were up by 23 points, and we only won by 21 points. No good team in the country should go out there and lose to a team in the second half that they should beat by 40 points. It is frustrating, in the second half especially. They were self-inflicted turnovers. We were just careless with the ball tonight.”

On Coach Huggin’s feelings after the game...

“He is made when we win by 20 points when we are supposed to win by 30 or 40 points. He is made when we lose by 1 point. Tonight was a loss. In the RPI, that’s a loss. We are not playing these games to win by 10 points. In the RPI we are supposed to win by 30 points. When you win by 21 points and you are supposed to win by 30 points, your RPI goes up.”

On what went wrong in tonight’s game...

“Obviously the turnovers. I don’t think we played a great first half but we positioned ourselves to come out and finish the game hard and we didn’t do that.”

On the Las Vegas tournament...

We want to play the best and beat the best. We get to play USC and they are a good team, so is Witchita State. We look forward to playing teams like that.”

Senior forward Cartier Martin

On Bill Walker starting in his place...

“That was a decision that I came to coach with. Obviously we need to get Bill (Walker) good minutes. I just came to coach and let him know that I’ll come off the bench and be fine with it. I want him to do good things. Let Bill get in there and get some touches and let him get a feel for the game. Then I’m all for that.”

On coming off the bench and being the leading scorer...

“Whatever works. Whatever we have to do to get better, that is what I am about. I want us to be a better team. I want to go out at the end of this year and say we actually accomplished something.”

On the team’s performance in the second half...

“We turned the ball over way more than we should have. We let them get in the zone and hit a couple shots. They got points off of our turnovers. We just didn’t get up and down and get it done like we planned.”

On the Las Vegas tournament...

“USC is a talented team and it would be good to get a victory over them and New Mexico or Witchita State. These are the games we look forward to. We should be ready and be focused and concentrate on winning these games.”
