Kansas State Player Quotes

Forward Darren Kent

On his game...

“It felt good to finally knock down some outside shots. I’ve been struggling the last couple of games. I needed to find my rhythm out there. At the beginning of the game, I struggled a little bit, but then knocked down a few and it gave me a little confidence out there. I went on from there and did it throughout the whole game.”

On closing out the first half with the last 9 team points...

“It was nice. I just found a rhythm with the shot. My teammates were nice enough to pass the ball while I was open and I fortunately knocked them down. It was a really good way to finish the half because we were struggling there in the beginning and towards the middle. “

On the point where he felt he was “on”...

“When I hit those last two to finish the half, I felt pretty hot. I knocked down that one jumper on the wing and then the three at the end was really nice for my confidence. I knocked down some more in the second half and got some offensive rebounds and some put back layups. Finishing up the half really boosted a little bit of confidence for me.

On the dunk from Jamar Samuels and his career high...

“I didn’t realize that was my career high at that point, obviously, but the defenders were really over playing us, and coach Frank told us to look for those slips. Jamar (Samuels) had it at the top of the key and I slipped it and he found me and I finished it with a dunk. It was nice to get that career high out of the way and hopefully get a new one soon. ”

On guarding Centenary’s high scorers...

“It was tough. At one point, they had four guards out there. We don’t really practice that, but it was nice because Baylor has a team like that; penetrate and dish, so it was nice to get a win like that.”

On playing a game after finals week...

“We just finished all of our exams on Friday, so we didn’t really have a chance to practice that week. We worked in individual groups. It was tough. We didn’t really have a good offensive night, except Darren (Kent). I think we’re going to look past this and come back stronger after Christmas break.”

On Darren Kent’s dunk...

“It was amazing. Darren Kent’s very athletic. I’m always going to give someone the ball when they pop open. When he popped open, I gave it to him. He dunked it on them, so it was nice.”
