Kansas State Head Coach Frank Martin Quotes

On playing before Christmas break ...

“It was a hard day to play a game. Those kids have been studying all week and dealing with finals. I don’t know if you guys remember, but I kind of remember this week. I never enjoyed it a heck of a whole lot as a student, but maybe that’s because I wasn’t a good student. It’s just difficult. They were taking finals yesterday, and we have to play a game today. Its unfortunate, but that’s the way we scheduled it so we have to line up and play it. I’m just happy this game is over with.”

On Darren Kent’s game...

“Darren (Kent) is going to continue to gain confidence in himself. He’s put in almost three years worth of work to give himself a chance to succeed on the floor. It’s just good to see him go out there and make some shots. He’s got that ability. Now, he’s got to become better as a decision maker with the ball in his hands.”

On the Fort Riley partnership...

“It was a special day. We live our lives here in the United States with some freedoms that not very many people live with around the world. We live it pretty comfortably. We live that way because of what those guys in the military do to represent what the United States of America symbolizes. We do it with the military that’s made up of less than one percent of our population, and it’s completely voluntary. That should say the kind of people that this country is made up of. It was important for us to create the bond with the First Lightning Brigade. There are kids over there that are the same age as the guys that are playing basketball for us walking down the street not knowing if the next bullet will have their name on it and doing it because that’s what the country is calling them to do. That’s a strong message, and that’s something that our guys have taken to heart.”
