Inclement Weather Forces Schedule Change at NCAA West Preliminary

Revised Schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan.
– Inclement weather on the first day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary, which is being held at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas, has resulted in changes to the meet’s schedule, officials announced on Thursday evening.

The meet will resume at 8 a.m., Friday, with the semifinal of the men’s 10,000 meter run. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the conclusion of the men’s hammer throw and women’s javelin throw, which both began on Thursday but could not conclude as a result of the weather.

Other changes included all running events being run as quarterfinals. In the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and all hurdle events, the heat winner and the six fastest times will advance to accommodate the schedule changes.

In the 1500 meter run, the top two times will automatically advance, followed by the four fastest times in each section.

The men’s and women’s pole vault, as well as the men’s and women’s high jump, will all be contested indoors at Anschutz Sports Pavilion as a result of the threat of weather throughout the weekend.
