Incoming Freshman Valadez Wins AJGA Event

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State men’s golf incoming freshman Levi Valadez fired a 54-hole score of 9-under par 207 to claim his first-career American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event, the Patrick Reed Junior Championship, this week in The Woodlands, Texas.

Valadez, a native of San Antonio, was under par all three rounds, including a stellar 6-under par 66 in the first round on Tuesday to jump out to an early lead. He maintained that advantage by carding a 2-under par 70 in Wednesday’s second round and a 1-under par 71 on Thursday.

In all, Valadez carded 17 birdies at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course and as opposed to only four bogeys and two double-bogeys.

Valadez, one of three incoming freshmen for head coach Grant Robbins in 2016-17, currently ranks 25th nationally in the class of 2016 by Golfweek. A product of Alamo Heights High School, he finished fourth in the Texas 5A High School State Championship each of the last two seasons.
