K-State Announces 2015-16 Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The K-State women’s tennis schedule has been set for the 2015-16 season. The fall slate begins on September 24 with the Oklahoma Fall Invite and continues with six tournaments followed by 18 dual matches in the spring. The schedule features three defending conference champions and seven top-three finishers in their respective conference.

From October 3-11, the Wildcats head out west for the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships before competing in the SMU Fall Tournament in Dallas, Texas beginning on October 9. Following their trip to Dallas, the team will continue its October run with a trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma on the 15th for the ITA Regional Championships. The month is wrapped up in Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Jamboree on the 24th.

K-State caps off fall play in Orlando, Florida at the USTA Clay Court Invitational on November 5 played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Spring play kicks off on January 23 when K-State travels to Springfield, Missouri to duel Missouri State. To close out January, the Wildcat’s play Washington State and North Texas on the 29th and 30th in Pullman, Washington.

K-State’s next two events are against former Big 12 foes Colorado and Missouri. The Cats will host Colorado on February 5 then take on Missouri in Columbia on February 10.

Following the trip to Missouri, the team will come home for two straight matches in Manhattan. On February 20, K-State takes on Air Force followed by facing last year’s Missouri Valley Conference runner-up Drake on the 21st.

The Wildcats will journey up to the Big Apple to take on Columbia and Memphis in a two-day set on February 26 and 27 before returning home for a three-match homestand. 

During the homestand, K-State will face defending Summit League champion Denver as well as SMU on March 4 and 6 before hosting defending Big 12 champion Baylor for its first conference meeting of the season. 

On March 14, K-State will take on in-state opponent and defending Missouri Valley Conference champions Wichita State for state-bragging rights. The match will be played on a neutral site that is still to be determined.

The Wildcats take on Texas on March 20 before making the short trip to Kansas City to play UMKC and Southern Illinois on March 26 at the Plaza Tennis Center to put an end to non-conference play.

The rest of the season will be Big 12 opponents for the Wildcats beginning with four straight away matches. K-State begins in Lubbock against last year’s Big 12 runner-up, Texas Tech, on April 1 and will remain in Texas to take on TCU in Fort Worth on the 3rd. On April 8, the team makes the trek up to Ames, Iowa to battle Iowa State before heading east to challenge West Virginia on April 10.

K-State will close out the regular season with three straight home matches against KU (April 16), Oklahoma State (April 22), and Oklahoma (April 24) at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

The Big 12 Championship is slated for April 27-May 1 and the Wildcats will look to improve on last year’s quarterfinals finish at Oklahoma State’s Greenwood Tennis Center.

Second-year head coach Danielle Steinberg returns seven players for the 2015-16 season, a list that includes Iva Bago, Sara Castellano, Livia Cirnu, Carolina Costamagna, Palma Juhasz, Riley Nizzi, and Maria Panaite.
