K-State Continues Spring Season in Arizona

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following nearly three weeks of practice, the Kansas State women's golf team is set to face competition in the desert as the Wildcats head to Tucson, Arizona, to compete in the MountainView Collegiate, Friday and Saturday, at MountainView Golf Club. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Friday followed by 18 holes on Saturday with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. (CT) each day.

“The team is ready to get back into competition,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “They have been working very hard during practice and are continuing to improve.”

The entire K-State squad will be competing in the event with Connie Jaffrey, Katherine Gravel-Coursol, Madison Talley, Paige Nelson and Chloe Weir making up the scoring line up, while Scotland Preston will compete as an individual.

Jaffrey and Gravel-Coursol paced the squad in the last outing for the team, the Westbrook Invitational on February 21 and 22. Jaffrey carded a season low 4-under par 212 and finished in a tie for third. Her score was the fourth lowest 54-hole total in school history, while she also earned the fourth top-five finish in her career. Gravel-Coursol finished in eighth place after shooting a new career best 54-hole score of 3-under par 213, which tied for the fifth-lowest total in school history. The team notched their second third-place finish of the season after tallying a three-round total of 3-under par 861.

This is the 18th-consecutive year K-State will compete in the MountainView Collegiate. The Wildcats finished in a tie for third placed last year with a team score of even-par 864. The squad was led by Talley, who carded a 54-hole total of 1-under par 215 to tie for 14th.

Kansas State will be joined in the MountainView Collegiate by 14 other teams, which includes Colorado State, Georgia, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Purdue, San Jose State, Texas State, UTSA and Wyoming.
