K-State Eyes Top 10 in Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Kansas State men’s golf team is in 11th place after carding a 3-over par 291 in the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Invitational at the Blackthorn Club Golf Course on Friday.

The Wildcats started the day on a high note but were unable to execute in critical times, particularly toward the end of the day.

"We played well early but did a really poor job of finishing. As a team we were +10 on the last three holes, and there is no excuse for that,” said head coach Grant Robbins. “We have two rounds left and everyone is playing well. We need to put this behind us and do a better job of controlling our emotions and not letting mistakes carry over.”

The Wildcats are currently 1 stroke outside of the top 10, behind Furman.

Sophomore Jeremy Gandon led the charge for the Wildcats but was unable to find solid footing on the leaderboard. The Charpey, France, native scored a 2-under par 70 and is currently in a tie for 14th.

Following Gandon on the leaderboard, sophomore Roland Massimino and freshman Ben Fernandez both posted an identical score of 1-over par 73 and sit in a nine-way tie for 34th. Senior Matt Green and freshman Jacob Eklund were unable to hold pace with the rest of the team, falling to 3-over par 75 to tie for 61st place.

The Cats will look to bounce back Saturday and will begin the second day of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at 9:20 a.m. Live scoring from Jonesborough can be found atwww.birdiefire.com, with updates posted atwww.kstatesports.com at the end of play.
