K-State Heads South for SMU/DAC Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming down to the final two events prior to the Big 12 Championship, the Kansas State women's golf team is back in action for the first time in two weeks as the Wildcats head to Mesquite, Texas, to compete in the SMU/DAC Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at the par-72, 6,159-yard Dallas Athletic Club. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Friday followed by 18 holes on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., each day.
“We are looking forward to getting back on track this week at the Dallas Athletic Club,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “It is time to get back into a confident and aggressive mindset.”
Five members of the K-State squad will be competing in the event with Madison Talley, Connie Jaffrey, Katherine Gravel-Coursol, Scotland Preston and Paige Nelson making up the scoring lineup. It is the fifth time this year K-State has used this lineup, including the first time this spring.
Talley, who leads the team with a 72.96 stroke average, paced the squad in the team’s last outing, the MountainView Collegiate. Talley carded a top-five finish for the fifth time in her career and third time this season with a score of 2-under par 214. The team notched an 11th-place finish after tallying a three-round total of 28-over par 892. Jaffrey is second on the squad with a 73.90 stroke average and has recorded two top-20 finishes this season, including a tie for third at the Westbrook Invitational, February 21-22.
This is the fourth year in a row that K-State will compete in the SMU/DAC Invitational. The Wildcats finished in seventh place last year with a team score of 47-over par 911. The squad was led by Talley, who carded a 54-hole total of 11-over par 227 to tie for 29th.
Kansas State will be joined in the SMU/DAC Invitational by 15 other teams, which includes six teams in the top 35 nationally according to Golfstat and six Big 12 teams. The squads competing at the Dallas Athletic Club this weekend are Baylor, Florida International, No. 16 Iowa State, Kansas, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma, No. 27 SMU, No. 35 TCU, No. 25 Texas Tech, Tulane, No. 13 Washington, UCA, No. 18 UNLV and UTSA.
