K-State in 11th at MountainView

TUCSON, Ariz. - Kansas State junior women’s golfer Madison Talley moved into the top-10 following the second round of play of the MountainView Collegiate at the par-72 MountianView Golf Club on Friday. As a team, the Wildcats carded a 21-over par 597 and enter final-round play in 11th place.

Talley, who shot even par in round one, fired a 1-under par 71 in the second round and enters Saturday’s final round in a tie for sixth place at 1-under par 143. Talley is in search of her third top-10 finish of the year.

Joining Talley in the top-20 is junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who carded a 2-over par 146 and sits tied for 15th. Gravel-Coursol shot 1-under par 71 in the first round to put her in contention for her fourth top-20 finish of the season.

“Madison, Katherine and Connie (Jaffrey) were solid,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “Unfortunately, we could not get the fourth score and had to count a high. We are not pleased with 11th; that is below the standard for this team. It is a four-score format and this is a strong field.”

Sophomore Connie Jaffrey is in a tie for 33rd with a 5-over par 149. Junior Paige Nelson ended the day in a tie for 79th at 16-over par 160, while freshman Chloe Weir carded a 20-over par 164. Senior Scotland Preston, competing as an individual, carded a 1-under par 71 in the first round but an 83 in the second as she completed play on Friday in a tie for 60th at 10-over par 154.

Georgia sits on top of the team leaderboard after carding a 6-under par 570 through the first two rounds. The Bulldogs were paced by Jillian Hollis, who is on top of the individual leaderboard after shooting an 11-under par 133.

The final round of the MountainView Collegiate will start at 10 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. Live stats can be followed on www.birdiefire.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
