K-State in Fifth at Johnie Imes

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in fifth place following the first two rounds of the Johnie Imes Invitational at the par-72, 7,221-yard Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday. The Wildcats carded an 8-over par 296 in round one but bounced back with a 4-under par 284 in the second round to enter final-round play at 4-over par 580.

K-State has two players in the top 11 with Connie Jaffrey tied for eighth and Katherine Gravel-Coursol tied for 11th.

“I’m very proud of Katherine,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “She had her first under-par round in college this afternoon. We were not able to take advantage of good scoring conditions in round one. We gave away too many shots, but bounced back in round two. Everyone improved this afternoon.”

Jaffrey is at 3-under par 141 thanks to consistent rounds of 71 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon. Gravel-Coursol carded a 1-under par 143, including a 1-under par 70 in round two.

Junior Madison Talley is tied for 34th at 3-over par 147, while junior Paige Nelson finished the day at 7-over par and is tied for 53rd and senior Scotland Preston is tied for 69th 10-over par. Playing as an individual, freshman Chloe Weir is at 6-over par 150 to sit in a tie for 47th.

Missouri, which tallied a team score of 27-under par 549 on Monday to hold the lead entering the final round, is paced by Jess Meek, who sits on top of the individual leaderboard at 10-under par 143.

The third round of the Johine Imes Invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday. Live stats can be followed on www.birdiefire.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
