K-State Kicks Off 2016 at Wildcat Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After almost a month since the team’s last meet, Kansas State’s 4th-ranked women and 20th-ranked men return to action on Saturday as the Wildcats host the Wildcat Invitational at Ahearn Field House.

The meet starts at 11 a.m. CT with field events, followed by track events which are slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT.

Saturday’s meet will be the first time K-State has put on the Wildcat Invitational since the start of the 2014 indoor season. The Wildcats swept the event and posted 16 combined first-place finishes.

K-State dominated in its last outing as both the men and the women took first place at the K-State Winter Invitational. As a whole, Wildcat competitors recorded a combined 12 first-place finishes at the meet, seven coming on the women’s side and five on the men’s side.

Senior Tia’ Gamble highlighted the meet in the 300 meter dash, setting a meet, facility and school record with a time of 39.29, topping the previous mark of 39.40 set by teammate Keiteyana Parks set at last season’s Winter Invitational.

Junior Miles Bearden also had an excellent in the field during the Wildcats last meet, setting a personal best in high jump with a leap of 2.18m/7-01.75.

The Wildcat throwers also had a solid day, taking first place in all but one event, while both relay teams earned first-place finishes in the 4x400.
