K-State Opens Fall Season in 10th at Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Kansas State women’s golf team carded a 20-over par 308 on Tuesday to close out the Minnesota Invitational in 10th place at the par-72, 6,119-yard Minikahda Club Golf Course. The Wildcats totaled a three-round score of 53-over par 917.

Sophomore Chloe Weir led the way for K-State by shooting a 12-over par 228 for the tournament, which featured an even-round 72 in the second round, the best by a Wildcat during the event. Weir finished in a tie for 30th

“This was not the result we are capable of,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We will be back to work hard to bounce back in two weeks.”

Senior Madison Talley finished one stroke behind Weir, shooting a 13-over par 229 to tie for 33rd place, while senior Paige Nelson tied for 38th at 15-over par 231. Senior Katherine Gravel-Coursel and freshman Tash Carlsson finished in a tie for 46th place as both carded an 18-over par 234. Playing as an individual, freshman Hayden Mammen shot a 15-over par 231 to tie for 38th. 

Furman defeated Purdue in a five-player tiebreaker to win the team championship. The Paladins and Boilermakers finished the 54-hole tournament at 18-over par 882, nine strokes ahead of third-place Texas.

Furman was helped to victory by Haylee Harford, who shot a 4-under par 68 in the final round to tie for the individual title with Kentucky’s Isabelle Johansson at a 1-under par 215. Both Harford and Johansson carded a 68 in round three as they each entered the day tied for 12th.

K-State will be back in action Sept. 25-27, in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Chip-N-Club Invitational.
