K-State Places Program-Record Six on Academic All-Big 12 Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Led by a trio of seniors and a redshirt freshman with a perfect 4.0 GPA, the Kansas State men’s golf team tallied a program-best six members on the 2016-17 Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference office has announced.

Seniors Matt Green, Connor Knabe and Jack Rickabaugh were joined by sophomores Jeremy Gandon and Roland Massimino and redshirt freshman Ben Fernandez on the first team, tying with Baylor for the most first-team honorees this season.

The six Wildcats to earn Academic All-Big 12 honors broke the previous program record of five held by the 2008-09 and 2013-14 squads.

Of the 41 men’s golfers honored by the Big 12, only Fernandez was nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A business major from Southlake, Texas, Fernandez accomplished the feat in his first season of eligibility.

Knabe and Green made their second appearance on the list as both were honored in 2014-15. Rickabaugh, Gandon and Massimino are each first-year recipients.

K-State returns to competition next week for the 2017 Big 12 Championship, Monday through Wednesday, at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
